Is there an area that a date can be engraved on it?

No, sorry, there is no smooth area on this pocket watch that can be engraved.

Would it be possible to have the inside of the back cover engraved with a small message?

Unfortunately, the inside cover has a swirled pattern that cannot be engraved over.
